One-way crossing · Teluk Nara → Labuan Bajo · Apr–Nov sailing season

Lombok to Labuan Bajo · as of 2026

There is no direct fast boat. Here is what works.

The crossing spans roughly 450 km of open sea, across Sumbawa and the Sape Strait. No scheduled public fast boat covers it in a single hop, so the real choices are a flight via Bali, a land-and-sea express through Sumbawa, or a charter.

The speed ladder

Three ways to move quickly.

Per 2026 conditions, these are the realistic fast options along the Lombok to Labuan Bajo corridor. Nothing public runs the whole route in one leg.

  • 4 – 6 hours

    Fly via Bali

Lombok (LOP) to Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). Two short flights, and the only genuine same-day option.

  • 20 – 26 hours

    Land-and-sea express

Car or shuttle across Sumbawa to Sape harbour, then the ferry or express boat over. Budget-friendly, runs through the night, and tiring.

  • Custom

    Private fast boat charter

A chartered speedboat shortens the sea legs sharply, but the Sape Strait decides the schedule, not the engine.

The honest rule of thumb: choose speed when Komodo is your base, and choose the four-day sailing when Komodo is the point of the trip.

The questions that decide it.

All answered questions

Is there a direct fast boat from Lombok to Labuan Bajo?

No. As of 2026 nothing scheduled covers the full route in one hop — the distance and the open Sape Strait make a single public fast-boat leg impractical. The realistic choices are flying via Bali, the land-and-sea express, a private charter, or the 4D3N sailing tour.

Can I visit Komodo in one day from Lombok?

Not meaningfully. Even flying, you land in Labuan Bajo around midday, and park day trips leave early in the morning. Plan a minimum of two nights in Labuan Bajo, or take the 4D3N boat so the park visit is built into the crossing.

When is the best season to make the crossing?

April to November offers the calmest, most reliable conditions, with July and August busiest. January and February bring the west monsoon; many shared boats pause and we generally advise flying in that window.

Which option suits travellers prone to seasickness?

Fly via Bali, then join day trips or a stabilised liveaboard out of Labuan Bajo. The 4D3N route includes long open-water legs that are beautiful but not gentle.

What are the luggage rules?

Soft bags beat hard suitcases — storage is shaped around duffels and backpacks, and large rigid cases may travel on the roof deck under tarpaulin. The guideline allowance is about 20 kg per person on shared departures, while charters are flexible. Keep electronics in a dry bag, and give notice for surfboards or dive bags so deck space is reserved.
